Mentality - Mattia

Mentality (February 2020)

Spraypaint and Permanent Marker on Cardboard

90cm x 75cm

This painting uses motivational quotes and symbolism to explore my philosophy of life and the main concepts that drive me as an individual, with the aim to inspire others to live on the core of those ideologies. Influenced by the conceptual works of Mr. Brainwash this piece uses a similar technique and approach to share ideas while the use of contrasting bright colors portrays a positive atmosphere that I want to share.

Feelings 1.1 - Mattia

Feelings 1.1 (October 2019)

Acrylic and Spraypaint on wooden board

135cm x 135cm

This painting aims to make the viewer explore the emotional side of his mind through a personal interpretation of the work. Inspired by Soulage’s use of texture, this piece was created with the intent to confuse and disorient the audience, making them focus on the only stable point in the piece which is the word Feelings. The word aims to connect the viewer’s emotional response with a specific memory and the blacks further reinforce the unsettling and intimidating atmosphere.

Feelings 1.2 - Mattia
Feelings 1.2 - Mattia

Feelings 1.2 (November 2019)

Acrylic and Spraypaint on wooden board

135cm x 135cm

This painting aims, through the use of a textured background and a stenciled word, to create an emotional response strictly connected to the personal interpretation of the word. Soulages vision inspired the use of thick paint to construct specific textures while the modern painter Robert Indiana inspired the approach to the audience. The white color scheme aims to recall moments varying from emptiness to happiness depending on the audience’s interpretation.

Rule for Infinite Happiness - Mattia

Rule for Infinite Happiness (June 2019)

Acrylic, Spray Paint, and Collage on Wood Board

125 x 63 cm

This piece inspired by decollage artist, Mimmo Rotella, aims to comment on the present capitalist society, who has this tendency to save money. This piece with a quote saying “live today as if you die tomorrow” aims to tell the audience to spend their money, because if there is no tomorrow, it can only change the present. With money bills glued to the board and green finishings on the borders, to represent rotting bills, this piece re-evaluates the meaning of money.

Memory - Mattia

Memory (March 2020)

Acrylic and Enamel paint on wooden board

250 x 135 cm

The painting is a portrayal of human memory, how it can be unreliable, how it becomes blurry sometimes but still remains one of the most beautiful things we have. Heartbreaks, the first love, mistakes, and crazy things we have done that turn out to be the best memories we have are all represented in this vision. Influenced by Jackson Pollock’s painting technique, this piece’s intertwining lines and colors represent perfectly the dynamics of our memory.

Cupid - Mattia

Cupid (January 2020)

Spray paint and Permanent Marker on Cardboard

80cm x 75cm

Cupid reveals the core philosophy of the concept of love through the portrayal of an emotional state. The technique and structure of the piece are inspired by the innovative Alec Monopoly, while the color scheme and approach are influenced by Angelo Accardi. The predominance of red is used to represent the characteristics of love, while the dripping paint and the contrasting bright colors are used to create an eccentric atmosphere.

Safe - Mattia

Safe (May 2019)

Spray Paint and Collage on Wood Board

100 x 115 cm

Influenced mainly by the accepted modern visual effects of Alec Monopoly and Banksy, this piece represents how our current society is based around the concept of exhibiting wealth. It shows how we are driven from this desire to make money as if all that came with it is happiness. This piece aims to controversially represent the negatives of wealth by visually representing an unfiltered reality that we are not often exposed to.

Live - Mattia

Live (May 2019)

Acrylic and Spray Paint on Cardboard

70 x 73 cm

This piece inspired by Mr. Brainwash’s color schemes and approach to the audience, is aimed at inspiring people to live as if there was no tomorrow. The piece uses motivational quotes and symbolism to inspire a different approach to how we perceive life and see it from my perspective. The structure of the piece, with negativity in the background contrasting in colors and lines with positivity placed in the front, shows that the positive should always be prioritized.

Illusional Improvement - Mattia

Illusional Improvement (June 2019)

Wire and Acrylic

20 x 5 x 5 cm

This artwork is inspired by Rachel Whiteread’s sculptures and is a cast from the inside of a paint bottle. I aim to comment on a current political event. In France, plastic straws have been replaced by paper straws even though paper straws are not a better solution to the problem. The message I’m trying to share is that although the sculpture looks beautiful with the bright colors and structural composition, nothing changes, some things are damaged and there is nothing we can do to fix it.

Nothing Lasts Forever - Mattia

Nothing Lasts Forever (March 2020)

Acrylic

20 x 5 x 5cm

The two acrylic structures represent a couple that stands together. The portrayal of fragility mixed with beauty is represented in the structural characteristics of the piece and describes the nature of this delicate bond. Inspired by the sculptures of Rachel Whiteread, the piece uses an acrylic structure cast from the inside of a paint bottle, to convey a sense of beauty while also being thin enough to look weak and fragile, representing precisely the dynamics of love.

Eyes Around You - Mattia

Eyes Around You (November 2018)

Stoneware clay and spray paint

35 x 15 x 5cm

This sculpture made of black clay represents a pair of eyes inspired by the Fendi design into a distorted oval shape aiming to be a rotating suspended into a gallery environment, inspired by the sculpture “La Pelle Dentro” by Jacopo Cardillo. This piece of art aims to make the viewer aware of these exponentially influential designer brands around us. How their presence induces us to their desire. Leading us towards a consumerist society.
