Paris as a Classroom

Last week, our Grade 4 students brought their learning to life during their Paris as a Classroom visit to the Château de Versailles. The excursion provided an immersive opportunity for students to connect their French language learning with history, architecture, and art while deepening their understanding of French culture.

As they explored the magnificent palace and gardens, students demonstrated curiosity, enthusiasm, and growing confidence as they engaged with authentic language and cultural experiences. The visit encouraged meaningful inquiry and rich discussions, allowing students to extend their learning far beyond the classroom walls.

This experience beautifully reflected our guiding statement of Language Learning by strengthening communication skills and fostering an appreciation of culture through language. It also connected strongly with Experiential and Service Learning, as students learned through direct experience, observation, and collaboration.

Throughout the day, it was wonderful to see our students embodying our Primary School values by being respectful, responsible, and aware in every aspect of the visit.

Grade 9 students in the Phase 5 French class recently visited the Musée de l’Immigration as part of their current unit on immigration.

During the visit, students explored the “Migrations & Climate” exhibition, which examines the links between climate change and human migration. Through an interactive workshop, students followed the journeys of fictional characters from different parts of the world who are directly affected by climate-related challenges.

Using profile sheets and decision cards, students considered how each character might adapt to changing environmental conditions. This activity encouraged students to reflect on the varied impacts of climate change and to understand that responses and opportunities differ depending on social, economic, and geographical contexts.

The visit offered a meaningful extension of classroom learning, helping students develop empathy, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of how communities respond to global challenges.

Last week, our Kindergarten students enjoyed a memorable visit to the Eiffel Tower as part of their Unit of Inquiry, How the World Works. This excursion gave students the opportunity to explore how design choices influence the structures people build.

During the visit, students closely observed the tower’s shape, materials, and overall design, making connections to the concepts they have been learning about in class. Seeing a real-world structure helped them better understand how thoughtful design supports strength and stability. Back in the classroom, students will use these observations to inspire their own creations as they design and build structures of their own.

This visit was a valuable hands-on learning experience that helped bring classroom concepts to life and encouraged curiosity, creativity, and inquiry.
