Because of its large scale The rift between the reality of my mind represents a daunting task taken on by an ambitious dreamer whose world is falling apart around him. The composition of the piece implies a tale of a hero with his back towards the viewer ready to face whatever comes his way this adds to the comic book intentions inspired by the works of Enki Bilal. This inspiration also carries over through the use of dark black lines to add details to smaller elements such as the trees, bushes and clouds in the piece. Content comments on being proud of the person that you turned out to be, and what better to showcase that than through a hand drawn piece. The evolution of an artist's skills and style can be seen through the way they represent themselves, much like the famous self portraits of Picasso. I… Love you whilst very simple at a first glance due to the large amount of white space, is a metaphor for our human nature. “At the end of the day we are all looking for a little nourishment and a bit of sunlight and a bit of love from those we set down roots with.” This piece comments that we are a lot like house plants, thriving in environments that nourish us, that warm our souls. The use of white space signifies the vast world that we are thrown into without anyone to look after us. The hesitation from the plant those three dots signify how sometimes we need to ask for that nourishment, that warmth. Because how could those around us know what we’re going through?

My installation piece incorporates seemingly different pieces together to tell the story of one’s self image and their self confidence. The large scale painting represents the anxiety that comes from those perfectionist tendencies that push us to our limits damaging our mental sanity. Whilst The self portrait represents the feeling of content within one’s self and their own body image; This idea is then built upon by The flow of creativity, that takes the graphite self portrait as a base and showcases how understanding ourselves can lead to beautiful things. It allows us to showcase our talents and passions without the fear of being judged by others. Which is all tied together by the final piece, I… Love you, where it tells a story through composition and its simplicity conveying to the audience how we all need that love and care in our life whether it comes from the environment around us or from within ourselves.

The rift between the reality of my mind (March 2023)

Acrylic & Marker on canvas

168 x 118.8 cm

The rift between the reality of my mind is a piece that aims to showcase that feeling of anxiety and self doubt within myself. His silhouette blends into the otherwise naturalistically coloured background to contrast how powerless he feels to change his situation. Inspired by depictions of the eiffel tower created by Robert Delaunay in his piece Le poète Philippe Soupault. A piece where the scale of the objects around the character are warped and emphasised to showcase the inner workings of a powerful mind.

I… Love you (5th February 2023)

Digital Painting

21 x 29.7 cm

A lot of works of art tell a story inspired by a poem that the artist has read or written. Inspired by the Pop art movement specifically Roy Lichtenstein piece titled Sortie where his use of comic elements to create an abstract personification of a woman, this piece titled, I… Love you use comic elements such as thick dark lines and speech bubbles to tell a metaphor between a household plant and human nature.

Content (16th January 2023)

Pencil on paper

21 x 29.7 cm

This piece is a very interesting choice to include. Just a self portrait. However this self portrait tells a much deeper story. This graphite self portrait done originally on an A4 piece of paper, represents that feeling of being comfortable with who you are. This piece in particular isn’t meant to be an anatomically accurate technical portrait, but rather a snapshot of the joy in the artist's eyes. It takes advantage of inconsistent scaling to showcase content within one’s self image.

The flow of creativity (3rd February 2023)

Digital Painting

21 x 29.7 cm

Taking the graphite self portrait as a base, this digital painting titled The flow of creativity inspired by Andy Warhol’s Mick Jagger from 1975 is an expression of the artist’s multifaceted personality that flows throughout and out of the artist’s mind and being represented by bright bold, block stripes covering the piece. The feeling of content seen in the graphite drawing is built upon by the colour implemented in this piece just like how the expression of one’s self starts with accepting who you are and trusting your own abilities to create works of art.
