Hospital Hallway (October 2020)
Acrylic paint and marker on canvas
100 cm x 138 cm
Hospital Hallway shows that hospitals aren’t places that we should relate to negative feelings as the doctors that work there save lives. I decided to make the piece mostly pink as it is the representative colour of breast cancer. I was heavily inspired by Patrick Caulfield with his use of flat colours and black lines that made his pictures look more like a graphic image rather than a realistic painting.
Snake (December 2020)
Drypoint etching
30 cm x 42 cm
Snake is a drypoint etching that represents death. In this piece, I was very inspired by different symbols that represent passing away, reincarnation, heaven, different religions and cultures so I wanted to include those aspects. My piece creates sort of a contrast between the sadness of death and the beauty of those symbols. The idea of symbolism in this piece was inspired by Grayson Perry’s work and his use of symbolism.
Flower (November 2020)
Ceramics
24 cm x 18 cm x 10 cm
Flower was influenced by the work of Hector Guimard as I was very inspired by his use of nature mixed with cities. This sculpture was based on a petal of a flower that has a very delicate structure which is why I used ceramics. The cut out shapes represent windows and doors of the building, which in a way mixes cities and nature together just like in Guimard’s work. My piece also shows the fragility of beauty of a flower that links to the idea of a person diagnosed with cancer.
