Eco Ecole

The International School of Paris was officially recognized as an Eco Ecole (Eco School) in the spring of 2008.  The Primary School and the Secondary School worked together on both joint and individual projects to achieve this status.

Maintaining an Eco Ecole is an ongoing process, especially in a mobile community such as ISP. Each year new students join the program, and in particular the younger students must be helped to understand the need for reusing and recycling, as well as the implications for the global community if we each do our part.

The school year of 2007-2008 was dedicated to understanding and putting into place the necessary elements for recycling. This included

  • installing the necessary bins for disposal of waste
  • educating the community about the ways in which we can cut down on waste
  • moving from the use of bleached white paper to recycled paper throughout the School
  • encouraging everybody to cut down on waste by using both sides of sheets of paper
  • reminding people to print only if absolutely necessary
  • stopping sending paper copies of our School newsletter
  • sending relevant information to the community electronically, whenever possible
The Primary School also started a garden to learn how to grow and care for nature. Students earned money and bought a tree for the School grounds and encouraged the community to stop using plastic bags.
