Humanitarian Project
The Namibia Project is an exciting opportunity for ISP students to get direct experience about life in developing countries. The idea originated in Ms. Pierre’s geography class. Her students suggested that rather than read about developing countries in a text book, what ISP students should do to learn about them would be to organize a trip and go to one! This year marks the fourth time that ISP is organizing a trip to Namibia.
Approximately twenty ISP students will be travelling to Namibia this summer to work at the Omuhaturua Primary School in the village of Otjimanangombe in rural Namibia. The school currently has an enrollment of 240 students, most of them boarding, who stay at the Omuhaturua Catherine Bullen Hostel adjacent to the school. In previous years, ISP students have retiled floors and painted walls in different schools in the country.
The Namibia team works together with the Catherine Bullen Organization, Komeho Organization and the Namibian Embassy.
"Trips such as these sow a seed in the minds of our students, giving them real and concrete experiences of a lifestyle and culture very different from their own."
