Middle Years Programme (Grades 6-10)

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) is a purpose-built five-year program for students aged 11-16, and is delivered in international schools worldwide. The philosophy and objectives of the MYP reflect those of the school, and is a program which ensures that our students have excellent preparation for the IB Diploma Programme which they follow in Grades 11 and 12.

We have been using the IB MYP framework at the International School of Paris since September 2001, building upon the skills and learning developed in the IB Primary Years Programme. It connects classroom pedagogical practices and content to the wider world through the Global Contexts and the Learner Profile.

The IB Middle Years Programme

MYP educators concentrate on how best to meet the needs of adolescents, who are confronted with a vast and often bewildering array of choices in a complex and rapidly changing world. A focus on higher-order thinking skills gives students opportunities to develop a growing awareness of themselves and others, as they explore real-world issues.

The IB goal is to provide students with the values and opportunities that will enable them to develop sound judgments, make wise choices and respect others in the global community.

MYP at ISP

The MYP is designed for our community.

Service as Action is a part of the curriculum.

The MYP programme culminates in a Personal Project in Grade 10.

The MYP is based on inter-disciplinary learning - building understanding across subjects.

The Personal and Social Education Programme is an incremental part of learning.

Our assessment is focused on learning, and recognizes individual learning styles.

We have a strong emphasis on language learning, through our extensive Mother Tongue Programme, the possibility of studying three languages within the curriculum, and support for French language and culture.

As a city center school, we are lucky to be able to use Paris as our classroom, and also use different locations in France for longer curricular field trips.
